East Lake Shore Drive is a block long stretch of the Drive running east-west instead of north-south between Bellevue and Walton. On it you will find several Gold Coast co-op buildings, built early in the 20th century.
On the curve of the Drive facing Lake Michigan, the view is breathtaking, and here sits 999 N Lakeshore Drive. This 10-story Chicago landmark was the first building built on this historic block in 1912. By wrapping the corner, the Benjamin H. Marshall designed 27-unit building has a wide face and unobstructed views of the lake from nearly every window. In particular the B-tier floor plan has 17 windows facing north or east – the primary beneficiary of the design.
Unit 3B, a 3 bedroom, 4 bath unit in this tier, is a recent renovation listed by Neal David of Koenig & Strey’s Gold Coast office. The lake views, as expected, are superb. Residents can take in the ocean-like span of the lake from the solarium and through the dining room while sipping a fine vintage from the 150 bottle wine center in the updated kitchen.
